Karen Collidge:

Physical Memories

Kingston NY. October 20th - December 30th

Dash Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its new fall show, an exhibition of Karen Coolidge’s sculptures and drawings.

Karen Collidge's “Physical Memory” shows the latest work of this New York-based artist, a series of sculptures and drawings that explore time, place, and memory in an extraordinarily intimate way. “These drawings are words from a diary I kept while tending to my dying mother.  By intent, they are hard to read. The diary was somewhere to run to when there was nowhere to go.  Someone to talk to when there was only me.”, explains the artist.

Her sculptures or “maquettes”, on the other hand, have been created using rocks, bones, corals and shells collected in her numerous travels. “One day I put two together from different parts of the world.  They took on a new identity, becoming more than the sum of their parts. As a group, they form a quiet universe of their own. What connects them is one lone walker.”
